![]() ![]() ![]() For instance, when I click the CPU icon, I get a breakdown on usage between user, system, nice and idle processes, a live graph of CPU usage over time by core, the top five CPU-using processes, some data on loads and uptimes, and an icon to launch Activity Monitor. MenuMeters, by comparison, shows uptime, a task and thread count, and load averages (and buttons for Activity Monitor and Console). You'll get similar detail on the other options in iStat menus. The replacement date and time function is a nice addition - when you click the time, you'll get a full month's calendar in the menu that appears, and options to open the Date & Time System Preferences panel or iCal. (You can't, however, see any iCal events or to-do's on the calendar for that, I really like MenuCalendarClock for iCal.) UNINSTALL ISTAT MENUS MAC FULL IStat menus is a very useful system monitoring tool, and at the moment, I'm trying to decide exactly which to keep using-I prefer some of the icon display options and appearances in MenuMeters, but I like the additional tools and features in iStat menus. There are likely other apps and services that will push forecasts to me, but with iStat Menus already a must-have on my Mac, I call the new Weather features a winner.(If you'd like more info on iStat menus, including a number of screenshots, Macworld covered it in this recent Mac Gems entry.) As both are free to use, though, there's no cost to trying both and sticking with the one that works best for you. Having the temperature range pushed to me first thing in the morning feeds all that. And I’m an information junkie, to be sure. I’m just always curious about the temperature, and use the data to decide what to wear, whether or not to open or shut windows, and sometimes to decide on activities. I have it on a widget in the upper left corner of my watch face. A Note on įun fact about me: the second most-used aspect of my Apple Watch is checking the temperature. You can buy version 6 for $18, or upgrade from previous versions for $9.99. ![]() I consider it a must-have utility on my Macs. I think their clock and calendar is better than the built-in one for macOS, too. I’ve always used it for CPU monitoring, RAM usage, and network traffic monitoring. It’s an app that puts a host of data in your menu bar. Weather Preferences in iStat Menus 6 iStat Menus 6 That’s one of the great things about iStat Menus in the first place, and Weather is just as customizable as anything else. In the preferences you can buy more frequent updates (which I haven’t done) and customize the data that’s displayed. Weather app in iOS is so ingrained in me, I haven’t remembered that basic forecast and conditions are there on my Mac. There’s a pulldown menu, too, which I haven’t used that much. Weather is a new feature in iStat Menus 6. It’s a small thing, to be sure, but when I get up to work, I’ve found myself immediately drawn to it, sitting all sweet and pretty in my Mac’s Notifications.
